Aurora Winkler employs layered abstraction to materialize the Earth's electromagnetic currents—those invisible energetic systems that pulse beneath our awareness. Working from her off-grid studio in Maine, she transforms scientific phenomena into visceral painterly investigations, building compositions that function as both visual and energetic fields.

 

Her current body of work, Telluric Currents, translates geomagnetic data into gestural abstractions using experimental layering techniques and color theory rooted in electromagnetic spectrum research. Sub-series like "Sirens Echos" extend this investigation into oceanic current systems, creating works that operate as sensory maps of underwater electromagnetic activity.

 

Winkler's abstractions have gained recognition through features in Conde Nast and regional publications, with exhibitions spanning local and national gallery contexts. Her practice bridges scientific methodology with painterly intuition, producing work that makes the invisible electromagnetic world tangible through mark-making and material consciousness.

Aurora Winkler lives and works in Western, Maine. She received a BFA from Sierra Nevada College, (now Sierra Nevada University)  Her work has been shown at the Thornhill Art Gallery, Portsmouth New Hampshire, Roux and Cyr Gallery, Portland Maine, Portland Art Gallery, in Portland Maine, Barba Contemporary Art, in Palm Springs California, The Jackson Art Gallery and Studio in Jackson New Hampshire, Harvest Gold Gallery in Lovell Maine, and online with  The UGallery.
